Review from Ebony Magazine's Sounding Off

"Sara Von Davenport makes an audacious debut with Anointed Praise (Tommy Boy Gospel). Though only 17, she has the voice and delievery of an experienced gospel diva. Producers Max Siegel and Derek (DOA) Allen infused several of the tracks with bold urban/hip-hop flavor; including the lead song "Higher," "Don't Wanna Be Runnin'" and "Have A Little Mercy." Andrae Crouch joins Davenport on his forever-timely classic, "Jesus Is The Answer," and her fine voice is show-cased on the ballad "The Best That I Can Do," produced by Fred Hammond. The teen singer movingly demonstrates that she has the talent to achieve her goal of reaching "millions of young people looking for a life change.'" Written by Lynn Norment.

Review from Vibe Magazine's REVOLUTIONS

Black music has always flowed in two parallel streams: the sacred and the secular. While praise-and-freedom spirituals spawned the blues, jazz, R&B, soul, and hip hop in subsequent generations, the church kept the gospel story alive with its choirs, where countless soul singers (e.g., Aretha Franklin) came of age. Tommy Boy introduces the newest God diva, 17-year-old Sara Von Davenport, who makes her auspicious recording debut with Anointed Praise.     Instead of taking the organic, experience-driven approach to spirituality a la Lauryn Hill, Von Davenport roots her show in the house of the Lord. Yes despite the mandatory Jesus-is-the-way lyrics and scripture sprinklings, the girl blessed with the rapturous voice steeps her witness in the fresh beats of the day. Von Davenport swings the chapel door open by launching into the memorable hip hop-charged melody "Higher," which is brimming with brawny bass lines, effervescent guitar rhythms, and rap breaks. She then enlists gospel great Andrae Crouch to join her for the sweet soul-funk textured "Jesus Is The Answer." In the second-half highlight, "Let's Praise His Name," Sara gets the meeting house rocking with joyful-noise shouts of ecstasy.
While the sermons get too preachy in streches and a couple hymns too majestic, Von Davenport makes an inspirational entrance, not only moving the spirit but also elevating the senses." Written by Dan Ouellette.

I truly believe that Sara is destined for greatness. It's something unique about her voice and simply her aura. It's like this young lady was destined for God's greatness. If the secular world can have there Aaliyahs, Brandys, Monicas, Myas, and more, why can't we have Sara? Believe me when we sing that we rather have Jesus than silver and gold. In Sara's case we'll sing we rather have platinum (Sara) than silver and gold (the secular artists). I know this young lady is going to be great. Support her and make sure she does the great things that Kirk Franklin, Cece Winans, Trin-i-tee 5:7 and more have done for gospel. She has an anointed praise, and I pray the world will hear it!
